Palembang, Indonesia
Located in the southeast of the Island of Sumatra, Palembang is the most ancient city and historic capitol in Indonesia with more than 1,500 years of recorded history. On the Malacca Straight, Palembang is steeped in rich history and culture even today that combines waves of Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity and Islam. Although it is not the biggest hot spot for foreign tourists, it offers some unique opportunities for the adventurous traveler. The city is built on both sides of the 750 Km long Musi River, where on the outskirts of the city, up and down the length of the river, the many indigenous tribes live much like they have for hundreds of years with a few added new amenities. Whether you want to see ruins, museums, temples, and pagodas, drink good coffee, eat famous deserts and delicious local food, or adventure up the mighty Musi River, Palembang has something for you. As it is not a major tourist destination, you will have to do some adventuring and exploring on your own like a true vagabond, talking to as many people as you can and asking the right questions. Not to worry though, prices are cheap and people are friendly. Whether you are looking for a quiet vacation or an epic adventure, check out Palembang and enjoy. Stay tuned to OW1P.com for more!!!
